The real art is not to identify what’s the correct ANSWER, real art and science is knowing how to ask the right QUESTION.
There are lot many stories in Indian vedic texts that explains how asking the right question helps gaining deeper insights.
Interestingly Vedic texts are full of questions and answers or dialogue that helps unravel mysteries of life, experiences, gyan (knowledge).
One such story is from Garud Puran – Garud (Lord Vishnu’s vahan) was distressed looking at suffering and pain on earth. He asks Lord Vishnu – “Lord, why did You create evil and suffering in the world?”
Lord Vishnu didn’t reply, rather asks Garud to rephrase the question. Garud realised his mistake, rephrased question and asked – “What is the nature of human choice, and how does ignorance create the experience of suffering?”
Both questions were aimed at Pain and suffering, however in first question, it was more like a blaming God for creating suffering and evil. When Garud rephrased the question, then the aim was to understand real reasons and factors that creates pain and evil.
Once the question moved away from blaming a creator and toward understanding human action (Karma) and perception, the answer became clear. The original question led only to confusion because it contained a false assumption; changing the question revealed the solution.
Moral – Learn to ask the correct question, correct answer will follow.
